Emergency Dwellings, Seamless Integration

This project aims to establish itself as a precedent for catering to an intergenerational community lead housing scheme whilst tackling a housing crisis and climate emergency. The project is rooted with extensive research and analysis of the local area and community. The goal was to not only develop residential units but also establish a hub catering to the needs and aspirations of all residents in the district.

A central focus of this project involved the creation of a promenade that seamlessly connects with the existing circulation. This design element ensures convenient and secure pedestrian flow between the residential spaces throughout the area. The hub itself, situated within the sites natural landscape, harmoniously incorporates the presence of old hedge maple trees, shaping the architectural layout around them.

Produced with AutoCAD, Illustrator and Procreate.

The Vision

Considering the site included a 5m drop from the main road, the most suitable choice for placing the row of housing was towards the back avoiding the shadow cast preventing the need for lower units to constantly require natural lighting. A community centre would be placed beside the drop instead with an angled roof for reflecting as much daylight as possible.

Concept Massing

Produced by cutting layers of MDF and blocks of wood with a ban saw for a simple massing. Then polishing the final shot we Procreate. Finalised by producing a sketch of the vision acquired from the massing model stages.
